Celebrate National Fire Prevention Month with these Tips

This post was sponsored by Kidde Fire Safety as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.
October is National Fire Prevention Month! It's time to get serious about fire safety in your home. As a parent, I value quality products to help keep us feeling safe. We prepare our home for the winter time and go over our emergency plans in case we ever need to use it. Now is a great time to get your home ready as well!
My mother has been a fire fighter for 20 years now. She has so many scary stories because people didn't prepare their homes before a fire broke out. Let's go through some great tips on how to prepare along with some wonderful product suggestions that my family use.

Kidde is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fire safety products. After more than 100 years of service, today you’ll find Kidde products in homes and businesses around the globe! Kidde smoke and carbon monoxide alarms help prevent injuries and minimize damage by alerting people to dangers earlier.
I first purchased my carbon monoxide and smoke alarms when I purchased my home. We choose Kidde products based on a recommendation we received and have used them ever since.

Here are some tips:
1. Check and maintain your alarms regularly.  Roughly 3 out of 5 fire fatalities occur in homes with no smoke alarms (or they don’t work). Taking just one moment to think about fire safety today can help protect a lifetime of moments to come.
2. Have a plan in case of an emergency like a fire or hazardous chemical situation. The most critical moment in a home emergency could be the moment you take to prepare for that situation right now.  If you are in the market, it's a great time to shop for Kidde Fire Safety essentials, from smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to fire extinguishers. We found our units at The Home Depot.

3. Practice your emergency plans! While 71% of Americans have an escape plan in case of a fire, only 47% of those have practiced. This might seem a bit weird especially with children but it's vital. Everyone in your home needs to know what to do and where to meet. This also helps you answer any questions they might have.
4. NFPA stats show that in 2017 U.S. fire departments responded to 357,000 home structure fires. Be prepared.

5. Keep up maintenance on your furnace too!! We get ours cleaned yearly and change the filter often. Cooking equipment is the top cause of home fires, followed by heating equipment.

6. If you smell gas or your carbon monoxide alarm goes off please call someone. Don't wait!!
