Let's visit the Corning Museum of Glass

As a parent I sometimes struggle to find things to do in New York. Our weather can range from Monday 81 degrees and Tuesday it is a snowy blizzard. This year has been no different and we are getting cabin fever. I recently discovered the Corning Glass Museum when I was invited for a Press Trip last year. I have wanted to take my family back ever since and experience it with them!
Nestled in the heart of Finger Lakes , The Corning Museum of Glass offers a unique opportunity to explore glass from all angles geared to all ages.
Since it is such a large establishment they offer free admission to kids and the second day complimentary with a purchased ticket.
Trust me when I say take your time and really soak it all in!
Interesting little secrets, tricks, illusions and art are everywhere.
Just take my word for it and wander. Feast your eyes on some of the most intricate glass art designs, creatures, kitchenware and figures.
You can also watch glass blowing demonstrations or even partake in your own. They allow you to create fun glass creations such as flowers, necklaces, etc.
We personally love the pumpkin figures! They will even ship them to your door.

I won't lie I was a bit of a nerd at school. I enjoyed learning so much my passion filtered in a Master's degree in education.
So exploring 3,500 years of glass art and history is right up my alley.
It may sound a bit dull but trust me when I say these exhibits are anything but.
Can you tell we really enjoyed the underwater creatures?
I love not only looking at the art but listening to how they came to the museum. In wooden crates probably found in someone's attic or basement and were donated! Now, they are on display for hundreds of thousands of people.
Now, my son will humor me for some time before he decided it is time to enter the "kid zone". I want to say this is more like a Science area. They have great glass breaking demonstrations and little artist booth like the one pictured above.
Volunteers come in and hon their crafts into these figures. They sell them in the gift shop along with their name and some information about them. I just love this! It is also pretty awesome to watch artists craft these in around ten minutes. Personally, I know my limits and I just do NOT have the glass creating genes!
If you are looking for some great educational places to take your kids or you want an adult getaway check out the Corning area. The historical town will charm you with hospitality and beautiful craftsmanship everywhere.
Have you ever watch glass blowing before?
Could you sit and watch for hours??
