Travel: Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

I had the pleasure of going on the Fathom Cruise to the Dominican Republic. After returning to port I decided to stay in Miami for a few extra days. While in town I sought out wonderful places to visit when I came across the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. If you only hit the beach and this you will NOT be disappointed.
This Italian Renaissance-inspired villa welcomes you from the very minute you enter the secluded driveway. This historic landmark will take you back in time to 1910 in such a great way!
I respectfully did not take photos within the walls of the Villa, but each room is detailed, and full of rich history to absorb.
The gardens outside are breath taking to say the very least. Each sea formed statue greets you in as the flowers and landscape captivates you. These statues appear to be all created using local seashells which gives them so many dimensions of texture and design.
Anyone for a Gondola ride?
I can see why so many house this location for their weddings and special gatherings!

I have to give it to them because restoring, preserving and housing these magnificent statues cannot be an easy task.  They are so eloquently done.
Take a walk and enjoy the Mangrove trees.

I had just planted some in the Dominican so I understand why these are so important to help with hurricanes and flooding.
The grounds house so many intricate parts including these cacti.
Or the sea like walls that lead to more gardens.

Pictures are the best way to share this unless you physically go here and visit.
It comes complete with a garden maze, grotto and lovely cafe!
I mentioned this in my Huffington Post but I have to mention it here too! Here’s a tip: TRY the chocolate chip cookies in the cafe, to date, the best that has ever graced my cookie loving pallet!
One more place I have to suggest before you go...the Marine Garden at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens have remained closed to the public for almost 25 years. It finally opened this year, GO!
