Faith Corner: Worry Vs. Faith

Over the past year I have come to realize getting older is hard. It is as much about finding yourself, dreams, and ambitions, as it is about finding your calm, center and purpose in life. Some of you reading this may not be religious or spiritual and that is OK. I am not by any means a Saint or Prophet. I struggle, like you, with concepts, world views, morals and values. Instead of doing this journey alone I decided to write down my struggles and questions. Then, actively seek a solution of my findings.  Maybe I won't find one, maybe you all can help in the comments by sharing. Let's work together?
This week I choose the topic Worry vs. Faith in our mind.
I saw this picture on Facebook. This sent me into weeks of digging, searching & wondering what this meant. How do I feel? Is this a truth in my life? I don't know about you, but I am a WORRY WART! Trust me, when I say my finger nails have suffered years of worry abuse!! I worry about serious things like friends, family, my son to everyday things like, grades, bills, the never ending piles of laundry, will I get a vacation soon?
But what is worry? Do I have worry in my head? According to the Dictionary worry is: "to torment oneself with or suffer from disturbing thoughts"
Wow, yeah that about sums up my life right there! I am, my own, number one WORST enemy. No one person in my life has ever beat me up as much as I beat myself up!! Can you relate??
Can I have Faith & worry in my head??
Yep, I have them both so is it effective in my life?
What does Faith say about worry??
Matthew 6:25,27 NLT
25"That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life--whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food, and your body more than clothing?"
27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
Well, worry may not be able to ADD a moment into my life but it sure has taken a ton of moments from me. One of the biggest struggles people have:
not enough time.
My Final thoughts on Worry vs. Faith:
I think you can have both Worry & Faith in your head simultaneously, but at a cost of productivity. Nothing is being accomplished when you house worry in your mind! I really should learn to not worry and instead have faith. "If we prayed as much as we worried, we would have a lot less to worry about, give your worries to God".I have faith things will work out!
I think if you worry, like I do, then you have to make a choice. Will worry or Faith live in your mind and heart? I don't like to worry or the feeling of being worried so I choose faith. Not because worry is unpleasant (although it is an unpleasant feeling) but because I want my moments back that worry took from me! I allowed worldly things to not only influence my thoughts but more importantly my faith. I don't know about you BUT that just does not sit right with me. "Faith begins where worry ends".
What is your choice? Are you a worry wart?
What are YOU doing to grow, change and have more faith??

  1. I use to worry a lot, all the time, but now I know worrying is not for me anymore, it is self doubt that is just to much to bare sometimes, I learned to be more happy and have a strong faith, and that works a lot more now then before. Great inspiring post.

  2. I can be a worrier too. I have a motto that I don't always follow, but try to: "Worry less, pray more." When my grandmother was alive she told me that over 95% of the things we worry about never come true. That in itself, is encouraging. My favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6 and I have to remind myself of it often.
